HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS
The Haiti Scholars team has had a tough time organizing Haiti trips since 2019. The country’s politics have been unstable and gangs have been getting more violent. These problems were made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing crisis in Haiti. So, Haiti Scholars decided to expand into humanitarian service projects including
- Getting clean water for our students and their families, with the help of our Uzima sponsor, by giving water filters to each student’s family and the school.
- Supporting “Detrauma Day” where our students could do fun activities to take their minds off the stress of everyday life. This was especially important for our students who have been through trauma.
- Setting up hand-washing stations to help our students stay healthy and prevent the spread of diseases.
- Giving out food kits to help our students who don’t have enough to eat.
- Providing hygiene kits to help our students stay clean and reduce the risk of getting sick.
- Initiating an annual uniform and backpack drive. All the uniforms and backpacks are made by local tailors in Haiti. Having a uniform is really important for a child in Haiti.
