Every morning, the four children of Obèns and Marie Ketlène Philoxy eagerly race out the door, excited for another day of learning at the Centre d’Etudès Lumiere de Mariani (CELM). But today, their laughter and energy are gone. Instead of heading to school, Woodemaus (4), Orlintcha (9), Mario (10), and Obèns (12) lie weak and feverish, gripped by a severe case of cholera from contaminated water. Two of them are so ill they require hospitalization.

Sadly, their story is not unique. In Haiti, countless children yearn to learn, but illness, infection, and malnutrition often keep them from the classroom. At CELM alone, 92 students have been identified as malnourished. Imagine trying to focus on your studies while battling hunger, exhaustion, or illness—it’s an impossible task.
